Singapore's live scene is compact and loud: cover bands at Clarke Quay, jazz in sky bars and old clubhouses, Mandopop live houses, a weekly comedy night and karaoke chains that keep going until sunrise. Most bands get going between 19:00 and 21:00.

The two-storey Orchard branch of the rock chain, past its 35th birthday. Burgers, memorabilia and local bands on the stage.
Bands play Monday to Thursday from about 19:00, and Tuesday is open mic. Happy hour runs on weekdays until 19:30.

A riverside live house where rotating bands play Mandopop hits and a DJ takes the late shift. The whole room knows the words.

Open Wednesday to Saturday only. Book a table near the stage on Friday or Saturday, when the jam runs until 01:00.

A proper listening room at the Keppel Bay marina: bebop, Latin and contemporary sets Wednesday to Saturday, and a Sunday jam.
The Sunday jam starts at 16:00. It's a taxi ride from the CBD and closes by 23:00, so make it dinner, not a nightcap.

Half concert, half club: a big room on top of Bugis+ where a large cast of singers and dancers performs until 3am.
18 and over. Weekend tables carry minimum spends from S$200++, but high tables have none Mon to Thu. Queue by 20:30.

Afternoons are cheapest at S$9.90++ for two hours; Friday nights cost the most. Five minutes on foot from Somerset MRT.

Rates and hours are posted as images on its site, so call or book online first. Off-peak daytime slots are the cheap ones.

A dim jazz lounge high above the CBD. Sunset sets give way to a live band and, on some nights, a DJ who keeps it rolling.
Sunset jazz starts around 18:00. Wednesday brings S$10++ martinis and 90s throwbacks from 22:00. Dashi Go Go is a floor up.

A big, unfussy Clarke Quay bar where a band plays every night, the platters are built for sharing and London Pride is on tap.

A Circular Road bar that is home to Comedy Masala, the weekly stand-up night, with a live band once the comics are done.
Comedy is every Tuesday at 20:00; book headliner nights on Peatix. The band after the show costs nothing extra. Closed Sundays.

The neighbourhood answer to Clarke Quay: local cover bands upstairs, a busy pavement below and a room full of regulars.
The bands are on the upper floor, so head straight up. It's out west in Holland Village; a taxi to the CBD takes 15 minutes.
