Art Deco flats, a Monkey God, hawker breakfast and very good croissants.
About 3.5 hours, under 2 km and flat. Start at 09:00 at Tiong Bahru Market for a hawker breakfast, then loop the 1930s estate: a Monkey God temple, murals, a gift shop and more bakeries than is sensible. Shops open around 10:00. Ends with lunch and a glass at Merci Marcel.

Sun Wukong, hero of Journey to the West, gets his own shrine here. It began as an attap hut on a taro patch across the street.
A working temple, so keep voices low and photos discreet. Look for the monkey figures on the altar before you leave.

A shady garden where residents sit and chat, built around a sculpture of a dancing girl. It is a stop on the official heritage trail.
Rest your legs on a bench. From here you can see the low, rounded walk-up blocks the estate is famous for.

Built from the 1930s by the colonial housing trust, these walk-ups were Singapore's first public flats: curved balconies, spiral stairs.
Walk Moh Guan Terrace to Block 78, the horseshoe; a 1930s air-raid shelter lies beneath it. See the spiral stairs from the back lanes.
